Abstract

The 1916 uprising in Turkestan left a significant mark in the history of our homeland as a major national liberation movement against the colonial administration system, which accelerated the collapse of the Russian Empire. An analysis of existing literature in national historiography shows that over the past 20 years, modern researchers have not paid sufficient attention to this topic. Based on studies conducted in the archives of Uzbekistan, it was found that most young researchers lack new archival materials related to the 1916 uprising, since these documents had already been introduced into scientific circulation by leading historians of the republic. As a result, a misconception has formed that it is difficult to draw new conclusions on this topic. However, despite the publication of several monographs and collections of archival documents, we believe that the scale of the territories covered by the uprising and the number of participants provide a basis for broader research and the development of new findings and conclusions. This article analyzes the political, economic, and social factors, as well as the causes and consequences of the 1916 uprisings in Turkestan.
